{"id":88120,"date":"2022-09-14T07:56:47","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T04:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fye-yemen.net\/?p=88120"},"modified":"2022-09-14T07:56:47","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T04:56:47","slug":"new-un-general-assembly-highlights-solidarity-sustainability-and-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fye-yemen.net\/?p=88120","title":{"rendered":"New UN General Assembly highlights \u2018solidarity, sustainability and science\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">New York- Rashad Alkhader \u00a0&#8211; From -UN<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The 77th session of the UN General Assembly opened on Tuesday with its new president urging world leaders to respond to humanity\u2019s most pressing challenges, including the war in Ukraine, by working together and building bridges across what are \u201cdeep divides\u201d.<br \/>\nAcknowledging that the world faces uncertainty and widening geopolitical fissures, Csaba K\u0151r\u00f6si reminded delegates that the United Nations was created out of the ashes of war and destruction, with the intention of being \u201ca well of solutions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cResponding to humanity\u2019s most pressing challenges demands that we work together, and that we reinvigorate inclusive, networked, and effective multilateralism and focus on that what unites us\u201d, he<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ukraine war: \u2018A turning point\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mr. K\u0151r\u00f6si underscored that the conflict in Ukraine has been a \u201cturning point\u201d, and unless the world is vigilant, the \u201cmethod\u201d of warfare stemming from Russia\u2019s invasion could become a part of the \u201ctoolkit of international life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cThis war must be stopped. Recent weeks have seen record-setting temperatures, raging fires and devastating floods. It looks as if Mother Nature is fighting back\u201d, he said, further underscoring that the world cannot go back to \u2018business as usual\u2019 after COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Hungarian diplomat also pointed out that while \u2018more manageable\u2019, the pandemic continues to wreak havoc across the globe, along with acute food insecurity, soaring energy prices, record inflation and global supply chain disruptions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cWe will not be returning to the old normal. The only way to achieve better outcomes is to transform. The contours of the transformation we need are already known. The Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the Sendai Framework, the Paris Agreement and Our Common Agenda, all point us in the right direction. Taking stock of the Sustainable Development Goals is simply not enough.
